We’ve had a bunch of people mention that it would be nice to have a little more information in the titles about the content of the episodes. I’m also making mental notes about improvements to the site layout.

First, what are your thoughts on having episode titles here be more like the ones we use over at Slice of SciFi?

For example, we’d have:

Babylon Podcast #162: Interview with JMS, Part 2
Babylon Podcast #163: Feedbackapalooza
Babylon Podcast #167: Season 5: Day of the Dead

instead of just the show numbers alone as episode titles.

Also, I’ve already added highly improved buttons to add individual articles to various aggregate or social media sites (the Share/Save tags at the end of each article), plus a ratings gizmo, so you can rate an article or episode on a scale of 1-5 stars.

Would that help or detract from what you need or like to see on the website?

If there are any other suggestions for the website (aside from more photos and screenshots), now’s the time to voice them to get them considered!

In all the excitement of our interview with JMS, I realized I hadn’t posted this:

Susie the Southern Geek invited me to appear on her wonderful podcast, How To Grow Your Geek. Longtime listeners of the Babcast will recall that Susie lent her voice to the All-Girls’ Geekfest last year.

We talked about a range of topics, from the Babcast to Doctor Who to Mythbusters to the form and content of knock-knock jokes. And, of course, our kids. Thanks, Susie, for the great conversation!

If you have ever tried to convince your spouse that Delenn would make a great name for your baby girl, you definitely need to listen to How To Grow Your Geek.

Since the interview with JMS last week has given us a little over 2 hours of podcast entertainment, we won’t be recording a show tonight.

Besides, Mike Mennenga deserves a Wednesday off every now and again!

I have to toss a shout-out to Gary from Jacksonville for this one.

He’d noticed that more podcasts were adding bells and whistles that enhance the listener experience, such as cute little displays for folks who use the iPhone and iPod Touch.

So, starting with Show #160, people can choose to view the show notes while listening to an episode.

I wonder what other kinds of easter eggs we can come up with…

In the wake of our conversation about the last mission to repair Hubble, John Bucsek sent us a link to Orbiter, a spaceflight simulator. A quick glance at the website reveals an app which realistically models the behavior of spacecraft, from liftoff to rendezvous to return. You can fly the Space Shuttle or the Deltaglider, which resembles the X-20 DynaSoar vehicle, proposed by the USAF as the next step after the X-15.

I’m not sure if I’m happy or sad that it’s a Windows-only app.

Just an update for our faithful listeners: there will not be a recording or live feed tonight.

However, we have some good news… Russ Johnson will be our guest next week. The man who was Kosh in “The Gathering” the first part of Season 1 will join us to chat about being the real First One, and this is your chance to get in any questions for him that you might have.

Send your questions for Russ to babylonpodcast at gmail dot com, or leave them in the comments section here, and we’ll do our best to get everyone’s questions in — it all depends on how long Tim’s questions are!

Sorry devoted Live Feed listeners. No live feed tonight. Mike has a pet emergency and can’t host and engineer the show tonight.

No need to fear. We’ll return next week with some fresh live feed goodness.

Until then here’s a few thoughts:

Why was Lyta kicked out of her room for lack of space when all of Grey 17 was empty?

Does Rising Star work as a better ending than Objects at Rest?

On the Babcast forum at farpointforums.com, KaveDweller (aka Mike) posted a link to photos of his visits to The Babylon 5 Mall Experience.

He has photos of various props on display, wall structures, and Jerry Doyle, Tracy Scoggins, and Andreas Katsulas. Go check ‘em out!

And thanks to Mike for graciously sharing these with the Babcast fans!

Okay, I’m stumped.

I had always thought that the Season 5 opening theme was on the “Best Of” soundtrack. Even regular listeners and chat room denizens told me that it was there.

But it’s not on my copy of that CD.

The cover art is the same, but the track listing on the CD is different from what’s listed on the Sonic Images website, and on Amazon.com.

The first 15 tracks are the same, but the last 3 are different.

Here’s what those three tracks are listed as from Sonic Images:

15 Main Title 4th Season
16 Main Title 5th Season
17 Dying Station
18 Bonus Theme

And here’s the listing of those final tracks from the CD I’ve owned for years:

15 Main Title 4th Season
16 Main Theme (Sierra Game)
17 Main Theme Extended (Sierra Game)
18 End Title 3rd Season (bonus track)

So, where exactly is the opening theme music for Season 5? Is there a different version of the “Best Of” CD that everyone else has? I never bought all of the episodic soundtracks (there’s what, 20, 25 of those total?), so I don’t know if it’s hiding out on one of those.

Is there more than one version of the “Best Of Babylon 5″ soundtrack? I honestly can’t recall if I ever made a note of exactly what this was, because it’s been a good 10 years since I’ve listened to it… which is another strange thing, because the date on my copy says 1997, while the release date on the Sonic Images website says 2001.

This CD also has video interview clips featuring JMS, John Copeland and Peter Jurasik about the Sierra game, a long trailer for the game set to the S4 opening music, and at the end of that trailer, it says the game is coming “Holiday ‘98″.

Did they re-release the “Best Of” CD later, changing up those last three tracks, and I just missed it?

Just FYI for folks who are subscribed through our old FeedBurner feed, that feed will be going away very soon.

We actually stopped promoting it a couple years ago, because there were some horrible interactions with the WordPress FeedBurner plugin, iTunes and our website at the time, so we tried to switch everyone over, or encourage them to use the main feed, http://www.babylonpodcast.com/?feed=podcast as the raw show feed to subscribe to if you don’t use iTunes.

If you are one of the small handful of people still using the FB feed, please use either http://www.babylonpodcast.com/feed/ for the entire site feed, shows and news, or http://www.babylonpodcast.com/?feed=podcast for the podcast.

If you are currently using iTunes, you don’t have anything to be concerned about. If you can use iTunes, subscribe using http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=118334327.

And if you are or will be using the iTunes Store feed, be sure to give us some reviews, show us some love! The more you love us, the more iTunes loves us, and that’s a very good thing.

Did you know The Babylon Podcast is listed as one of their Feature SciFi shows? Just click on Podcasts from the main iTunes Store page, then on the bottom right, click on Sci-Fi Fans, and you’ll see 15 scifi related podcasts spotlighted by iTunes… what’s even cooler is that 5 out of the 15 are FarPoint Media shows. Do we rock, or what?
