If you had the means, would you pay $225,000 a bottle for tequila?

In July 2263, Garibaldi embarks on a secret project to reverse-engineer Minbari and Vorlon technology in order to speed up construction of Destroyer Class White Star ships. Did this lead to the construction of Excalibur, and the larger cruiser we saw in Lost Tales?

Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer disagree on "Day of the Dead", and boy, do we chat about THAT difference of opinion! Written by Neil Gaiman, it's the first produced episode not written by JMS since Season 2 (since "Knives"?).

Tim thinks it's a weak effort, and Summer thinks it's one of the better episodes of Season 5 (and everyone knows how Summer feels about most of Season 5). But Summer still calls shenanigans on Tim's refusal to accept quantum physics as a way to explain how that section of B5 becomes linked to the Brakiri homeworld.

Would seeing Marcus have made more of an impact on Lennier than seeing Morden? Would that appearance have co-opted the hope that Marcus was not dead, but in suspended animation, awaiting a technological advance that could successfully revive him?

Feedback: Ask, and ye shall receive: Jarsto surfaces to lay the correction smackdown!

Tim is Tim, Jeffrey is Summer, and Gary is Jeffrey. It's so confusing...

The guys discuss the "Ten Women Who Get a Really Raw Deal in B5" list, which you can find at The Completely Useless Guide to B5.

Gary is disappointed that Vol 2 of "Asked Answered" doesn't have its own introduction, but other than that all expectations were met, and he's saving it for voicemails.

Deep Geeking: Tim and Gary talk about the developments and character shifts from "Secrets of the Soul". The first secret revolves around Byron discovering the extent of the Vorlon's involvement in the creation of telepaths, and the guys chat about Byron's dramatic shift from peaceful resistance to enraged outcast because of that new knowledge.

The other secret involves the long-held secret of the Hyach and how Dr Franklin discovers that the results of their actions centuries ago was the instrument of their own eventual decline.

Feedback: Gary responds to one of his own voicemails, letting us know that he's swamped with Parsecs submissions, and leaves us to mull over the "censorship" of the showing of Centauri female genitalia. Meta Gary Moment!

Halfway Day means we're halfway through the calendar year... and now we know!

In emails, Brian in NY wonders if a reinvisioning or a rebooting of Babylon 5 be good enough or if a new storyline would be better; Maureen is still working her wa through the podcast backlog, and wants to know what happened to Jarsto; Michael comments on Tim and Summer could be missing that B5 had a greater cultural impact than we realized.

Deep Geeking: Tim, Summer and Jeffrey discuss "Strange Relations", and how previously unrevealed interpersonal relationships begin to lead to shifting allegiances and alliances.

Feedback: Edmund adds his two cents on where the original Season 4/5 break would have happened and what Season 5 would have looked like had we known sooner that there would be a Season 5 and had JMS not lost his notes; Andrew also adds his voice to the legions that want to see a continuation/conclusion to the Crusade story line in any format; Rapid Eye sticks up for Jeffrey... sort of.

Jeffrey tells us about a rare B5 collectible: a miniature bus stop diarama with a B5 promo ad on the side of the tiny bus, made by TNT to promote the show. And fans express their desire to see more of our favorite ISN anchor, Jane Nolastname.

Hilary sends in an email expressing her disappointment with the shoe-horning in of the background relationship between Sheridan and Lochley; Brian also muses on the sudden appearance of life pods on the station (where were they before, and after "View From the Gallery"?)

No Jeffrey this week, he's off being the big-time Hollywood producer. We miss the Vorlon, but he's being wined and dined, so it's all good.

Tim comments on his copy of "Asked and Answered: Volume 1", and the slight differences between the finished version and the pre-production versions we'd already seen, and more.

Summer also regales the audience with select readings from her copy of the Fan Club provided "Crusade Writers Bible", hopefully addressing some of the questions about Gideon's Apocalypse Box, and Dureena's proposed destiny.

And yes, the red Fan Club stamp means it's official, so go ahead and buy that copy off of eBay, Gary.

 Never Surrender Dreams.

And now, we bring you Part 2 of The JMS Interview!

In this hour, JMS talks more with Tim and Summer about the development of Babylon 5 and the pros and cons of continuing or expanding the series, the real reason for putting his foot down on "big budget or nothing", the broader realities of the hammer lock of Warner Bros has on any future "expanded universe" properties, the personal influences on his writing, and related reflections on family, both born and made, and last but not least, the ever-changing relationships with the fans, both in cyberspace and on the convention circuits.

 Faith Manages.

The interview everyone clamored for but hadn't been holding their breath waiting for has come to pass.

JMS, The Great Maker, graciously allows Tim and Summer to throw a seemingly endless stream of questions about the origins and creation of Babylon 5, the production and growing pains of the show, and dealing with the vagaries of the industry of Hollywood, the bizarre perfect storm surrounding Crusade on TNT, and more.

And yes, this interview went long enough that the only way to do it justice was to split it over two episodes, so come back next week for part 2!

Deep Geeking: This week, Tim and Summer delve into "Learning Curve", and Tim admits that while he likes this episode, there are a few dramatic elements throughout the story where the cliches fell flat for him.

Was it pacing? Timing? Something else entirely?

Discussion: Listener Mike Y throws out the suggestion that Crusade might be able to continue in audio dramas; Sean admires the B5 related in-jokes that Jeffrey has been incorporating into the Go To Meeting ads, and would desperately love it if JMS could join Tim and Summer in Deep Geeking on "Sleeping in Light".

Summer recounts the story of discovering some items of interest on her final stash of VHS tapes, including the Sciography episode for the original Battlestar Galactica, and an episode of SF Vortex featuring JMS, Harlan Ellison, and Herb and Yvonne Solow.

Feedbackapalooza Jr: Because of rogue tachyons bombarding the area around Draco Vista Studios, we are experiencing a causality break that threw spatial-temporal ordering into disarray, giving us 3 Summers but no Tim, no Jeffrey and no Mike.

So in order to prevent any permanent damage to the space-time continuum, we bring you a special episode: Feedbackapalooza Jr!

Gary wants to know if Lochley ever specifically stated which side of the Earth Civil War she was on; Gary was amused by the GoToMeeting ads; Gary is shopping for tequila and follows Jeffrey's recommendation; Gary wonders if there was a parallel between the different seasons of B5 and the different chapters viewed in "Deconstruction of Falling Stars"; Gary muses on whether or not Lennier thinks joining the Rangers will improve his chances to be with Delenn after Sheridan dies in 20 years; Tom appreciates the looming feeling of dread cast over Season 5; Tom also loves that Season 5 also breaks all the main characters out of the delineations drawn up for them in Seasons 1-4; next, Tom gives a Star Trek analogy for the character shifts we see in Season 5.

Arkle adds some perspective on the "Vorlon on the Roof", and wonders why Summer didn't like the segment with the monks from "Deconstruction"; Doug surmises that maybe the shrapnel from shooting through ducts caused the injury that bled (shenanigans!); Brian solves the problem of what color bunny ears the Easter Kosh would be wearing; Gary thought that Lochley had more of a command presence than Ivanova and Sheridan right from the start.

Emails: Steven wonders if it would be possible to get an interview with Haley McLane, the voice of the station's computer; Robinson wonders if Jerry Doyle could be the love child of Bruce Willis and Terry O'Quinn... and John provides some info on why the Space Shuttle couldn't manuever from the Hubble to the ISS, and suggests playing with the Orbiter Flight Sim game.

From deep in the Vorlon archives, Summer-3 reads a memo about a B5 story making the cover of a magazine called "The Screening Room", and the article about the acquisition of B5 by TNT.

Deep Geeking: This week, Tim and Summer discuss "A View From the Gallery", the story of a day in the life on the station as seen from two maintenance workers who still need to go about their usual duties in the middle of a dangerous battle situation.

Do you think this episode appropriately captures a view of life on the station for the regular people?

Discussion: Kate in Chicagoland asks about the rumor about Crusade that had Gideon and the Apocalypse Box merging; David presents his observations on why all the rogue telepaths had gone au naturel with their grooming habits, and on the telepath saga as a whole. New Gary left a comment asking what life as a production assistant would be like, and what sort of opportunities are gained from the work.

And finally, everyone gets to hear "Tim Headroom"!

Jeffrey wants to know if there are any MIT students or professors listening to the podcast... no, we're not sure why the Vorlon wants to know...

Interview: We have found the First Vorlon! Russ Johnson, who wore the glide suit during Season 1, before Jeffrey took over the electraglide harness, joins us to reminisce about the early days on set at Babylon 5, and trying to one up each other for... something smelly?

Russ tells us all about the fun he had as part of Optic Nerve, escapades in both the encounter suit and as the drug-dealing cricket in Down Below, having to repeatedly tell TV fans that he was not the actor who played the Professor on Gilligan's Island, and more.

Discussion: Gary wishes Tim a Happy Birthday; Neil calls from Goddard Space Flight Center about the Shuttle Launch; Gary posits that we may have eventually seen some leadership juggling had Crusade gone on longer.

Tim reads emails from Bob, who tells us that he's doing a full B5 episodic immersion, by watching the episode, reading the scriptbook and Babylon File and Lurkers Guide entry... he also wants to hear more varied opinions on the show, so he's in for some fun when he gets to S5; Jim wonders about the portrayal of the military, and how they seem more like businessmen rather than officers in the military.

		<itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #155!

Jeffrey wants to bolt and celebrate Kosho de Mayo, because his homemade margarita mix (using a "low carb" version) just isn't kickin' it...

We chat a little bit about the Forbidden Planet and the leaking of the planned script, and the seeming addiction some people have that causes them to steal and leak unfinished products. Is it a cry for attention, an inner reaction to having no outlet for their own creative process, or just plain potential greed?

Visit GoToMeeting.com/techpodcasts for a FREE 30 day trial!!

Deep Geeking: This week, the Deep Geeking covers "The Paragon of Animals". Examination of B5's new telepath colony, and the start of Lyta's journey of independence, begins here. We also see the development of the Declaration of Principles, and how much it means to have the Alliance start off on the higher path that Sheridan and Delenn hopes they can all take.

Discussion: Jeffrey wonders how the hell Tim and Summer can wrangle 250 podcast episodes out of a series that ran for less than half that total, and he's very afraid. We may not be Cylons, but we have a plan.

Gary wants, gosh, he wants a digital version or cross-referenced index or, gosh, just something more 21st century when it comes to the upcoming "Asked and Answered" series; Todd calls in not from his Blackberry Storm, and wants to know if the Voices of Babylon crew might want to do a Crusade storyline after Three-Edged Sword is complete; Gary loved Garibaldi's "Rest Easy, Old Friends" line from the 500 year segment of "Deconstruction"; Gary has suggestions for lines for the podcast's Season 5 opener next year; Gary tells Mark from Miami/Daytona to go check out the forums and chat him up over there (yes, we've finally gone meta); Arkle busts Jeffrey's chops over football teams, and Summer returns serve over the hockey teams...

And then the end of the episode runs off the rails because Skype threw Jeffrey a curveball, and he decided to listen to an episode of The Squint Squad podcast with us still on the line... yay technology!

It is to laugh!

Tim has joined the modern Internet age, and has a real Internet connection! His FiOS line makes him sound a lot closer than the transfer point off Io, doesn't it?

Jeffrey waxes poetic about "Erth Day" and having two shuttles on the launch pad at the same time... and after that who knows where we went. Can something really run off the rails if you're not sure the rails were ever there to begin with?

Deep Geeking: This week, the Deep Geeking covers "The Very Long Night of Londo Mollari". The introspective journey that Londo takes, and the one that Lennier is about to take, all start here.

Discussion: Welcome to the Dead Tech segment of The Babylon Podcast!

Paul in Vegas comments on the Crusade soundtrack (he didn't like it), and waxes nostalgic over the B5 laserdiscs, which leads to Summer's rant about WB's handling of the laserdisc releases and into George's email about laserdisc players; Jeffrey still has a (working?) Betamax deck and wonders if B5 episodes were released on Beta... how many dead formats exist that B5 was released on? Mike thinks he can find old RCA 2" tape cart promos for B5, and Summer seriously considers asking Mike to download them, but we'll settle for picture proof of existence.

Jahi in Ithaca liked Gary Cole's portrayal of Gideon in Crusade, and had no problems with "actor baggage" from other roles... there are a lot of people out there who want more Crusade, a bit of story closure no matter what the medium. What could be the chances of having a new trilogy of novels based in the Crusade universe?

Jeffrey is frightened at the prospect of 3 more years of doing the podcast, but it's only because he didn't realize just how much material is still left to cover, and potential interview subjects to track down and talk to!

Deep Geeking: This week, we take the first step into the final arc in the overall 5-year journey, embarking on Deep Geeking for Season 5.

"No Compromises" falls under the bright light of examination, and Jeffrey recounts an impressive Tracy Scoggins audition story.

Discussion: Gary promises to get us pictures of both space shuttles on the launch pads at the same time; and he also sent us a recording of the Babylon Files: Volume 2 foreword that Jeffrey wrote for Andy Lane. Interestingly enough, he lets us know that Pat Tallman also wrote the afterword for the same book... maybe Gary will read that for us sometime soon.

Jeffrey also recounts his experience being caught on both sides of the strike that affected the set for a short time, and the emotional impact it had on him at the time.

Jeffrey pokes fun at Tim and Summer's consternation at not having a larger pool of contest entries to choose a winner from... or even someone who's gotten all of the voices guessed correctly. (this was recorded on March 18th, so the contest is already over)

We also hit a tangent about the death of the SciFi Channel. Summer rants. And she's not the only one who's a tad annoyed. Not by a long shot. Now she wants to implement a plan to create her owned damned spec-fic channel. Not a Cylon plan, but a plan nonetheless.

Interview: Stephen Furst joins us to reminisce about directing "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars"... at least, that was the initial plan.

And as we all know, the most entertaining shows always veer off their intended courses... "Babylon 5: The Musical"... 'nuff said!

Stay tuned next week for a super-sized Feedbackapalooza!

Discussion: In honor of Show #150, Jeffrey wonders how in the world we've done more podcast episodes than actual show episodes in existence, and Mike wonders how this tiny show grew to have a gravity well strong enough to pull him and Brad in for keeps. And then the talk wanders into the realm of space junk, and completely hijacks the intended topic of discussion... again!

		<itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #149!

Tim, Summer and Jeffrey try their hands at an Irish brogue, in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Jeffrey also serenades us with his guitar when he gets a little distracted by our geeking.

Tim gives us the news about the contest to name the new ISS module that's heading up. Read here to see the status of the vote -- we here at The Babylon Podcast are supporting the Browncoats and the quest to have the winning name be "Serenity".

the naming contest ended by the time this episode was posted

Contest: We've come up with a contest to give away a copy of the B5 Chronologies scriptbook! Can you identify all the voices in the podcast opening montage? If you think you can, submit your entries to contest [at] sliceofscifi [dot] com with the Subject line of Babylon Podcast Chronologies Contest, and include your mailing address.

We need all 12 voices correctly identified and in order, and a single winner will be selected from all the people who submit fully correct entries, and participants who helped with the lines are not eligible to enter this contest... maybe next time, gang.

Submit your entries by midnight Pacific time, March 3rd, and we'll randomly pick a winner from pool of correct entries live on the live feed on March 4th (extended to March 25th)

Check out the hints for the Chronologies Contest -- in acknowledgement that many of the voices might have been hard to discern, we have provided hints.

Deep Geeking: The team gets involved in geeking on "Rising Star", and musing on when the cast knew whether there'd be a 5th season, and on if that notice came before or after the initial airing of this episode.

Discussion: Summer and Tim succumb to the temptation and try out their best Irish brogues. Tim reads an email from Captain Jaclyn, correcting the info on the release date of the "Asked and Answered" scriptbooks (April 7th, not April 1st).

Gary sends us in a scenario on what it might have sounded like if we had heard the opposing commander's transmissions during Ivanova's "I am Death Incarnate" speech; Todd from Grand Rapids thinks he's figured out why Zima seemed to be so popular in the 23rd century; Neil from Bowie remembers the B5 Mall Tour, and he's going to try to dig up his memorabilia from his visit to it; Brian in NY submits his guess that the new scriptbooks might contain Lost Tales stories (apparently we're a little behind in voicemails); Johnny from Michigan comments on Lyta's "I'm gonna sue somebody" interlude, adding it to the "over the top" category.

Stay tuned next week for a visit from Stephen Furst!

		<itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #148!

Tim and Summer lament about whether or not the entry requirements are too hard for the Chronologies contest, since we haven't received any entries yet. Not a one.

Is the contest entry requirement too hard? Seriously, as of 2pm PT, March 11 2009, I have received ZERO entries for this contest. Is this too hard a task for our lurkers and rangers, or does everyone already have the Chronologies book?

Tim also relays a note from JMS saying that the studio has completely scrapped the screenplay for the Forbidden Planet remake, so we hope the person that leaked it was held responsible for theft of intellectual property and is now working off a period of indentured servitude in that studio's salt mines.

Submit your entries by midnight Pacific time, March 3rd, and we'll randomly pick a winner from pool of correct entries live on the live feed on March 4th (extended to March 25th)

Interview: Captain Jaclyn, Jason Davis and Amy Guskin from the Babylon 5 Scripts Team join us to discuss the new scriptbooks project that's been kept secret and tightly under wraps until now.

Asked and Answered: JMS answers Thousands of Fan Questions about Babylon 5 is the title of the new series, and it's an exhaustive compendium of questions ever asked about B5. Starting in November 1991, and current through 2008, the team went through over 20,000 questions from many sources that aren't available online anymore (online chat transcripts, convention transcripts, etc) in addition to the newsgroup archives from GEnie, AOL and Usenet.

It's arranged in chronological order, without editing, so it's a rare glimpse at the actual development process as the show is ongoing. Most people have seen some of the answers before, but a lot of work went into establishing the original question with the answer to preserve the original context.

Keep an eye out at the Babylon 5 Scripts store for more details as the official announcement date of March 17th and the release date of April 7th (not April 1st) draw near.

Feel free to ask the Scripts Team any questions about the project, and if you want to see that electronic version (for easier searching) or an electronic index, then let the Scripts Team know! (you know, there's a free Kindle app available for the iPhone and iPod Touch, if a Kindle version of the book could be made available someday)

Discussion: Tim and Summer nitpick a little more about the contents of these new books, and are looking forward to having the finished product to dig into later. But now Summer won't get her Crusade books until 2010... grumblefrack.

Interview: We talk with journalist Frank Garcia about his history as a freelance writer for many scifi magazines over the years, and the research that he and Mark Phillips undertook to compile the books Science Fiction Television Series, 1959-1989 and Science Fiction Television Series, 1990-2004.

We talk with Frank about his experience with Babylon 5 and Crusade over the years the show was in production, and the information pulled together for the second volume.

Find out more about both books at http://legacyweb.com/scifibook/index.shtml

Feedback and Discussion: Andy wonders if our Jeffrey is the one listed in the credits of The Faculty -- he was, and Jeffrey recounts his experience working with Robert Rodriguez; Todd from Grand Rapids disagrees with Summer and thinks that Gary Cole as an EA Captain just doesn't work for him because of the Brady Bunch memories (and Summer will always think of him as Sheriff Buck); Gary wants to know who wrote the copy of the B5 episode teasers that aired during the first 4 seasons on PTEN (Jeffrey says it was the promo folks at PTEN/WB).

Tim reads some news from JMS on his screenplays in progress, including World War Z, Lensman, and Ninja Assassin, and some teaser news that he's been offered some directing gigs.

Discussion: Tim and Summer revisit the discussion about Ivanova's "I am Death Incarnate" declaration before leading the White Star fleet up against the advanced EA Destroyer fleet. We compare it to President Laura Roslin's speech from the recent BSG Season 4 episode "Blood on the Scales", and Summer amends her previous assessment of Ivanova's speech. She doesn't hate it, like Tim and Mike do, but it definitely doesn't rank as high in her estimation as before.

Voicemail: Arkle adds his thoughts about and full support for Ivanova's "Death Incarnate" speech; Todd from Grand Rapids adds his comments about the Ivanova speech; a comment on how maybe they did hang up on Ivanova during her speech and no one told her about it.

Troy sent an email saying that Tim's wrong about Ivanova's speech, and how apropos it is for a warrior walking into her death; another email thinks that it appropriately displays her state of being near the breaking point, under the pressures of leading the fleet and being worried about Sheridan's welfare in captivity.

Bethany from Oklahoma is catching up after being without Internet access while in Colorado for a month, and she watched episodes of "Babylon 5" on her drive back home through the Rocky Mountains... good thing she didn't really have to watch the screen rather than the road; comments on the various themes in "Between the Darkness and the Light", with the struggles of many of the characters being echoes of the title; Dave from Kentucky lets us know that there's a large selection of Babylon 5 ships done in Legos; Doug calls in about #134 and the difference in sizes between the B4 and B5 stations; Gary has a question for Jeffrey about the Babylon 5 Mall Tour mentioned in some old issues of "The Universe Today", and Jeffrey tells us what he remembers about the tour, a promotional venture by TNT to promote the upcoming new Season 5 episodes (paging Sandy Bruckner!)

Gary sends his apologies to Jeffrey for bringing Ed Wasser to the show for us to talk with; Edmund from Greenville wants to chat about "Intersection in Real Time", and how it originally was slated to be the Season 4 finale, and thinks the way we ended up receiving the shows works better than the original plan; Bethany from Oklahoma shares her thoughts on "Intersections in Real Time"; Kate from Chicagoland has issues with the Shadow War wrapping up too quickly; Neil from Bowie comments on his shiny new copy of the TV Movies Scriptbook; Bethany from Oklahoma comments on the discussion for "Exercise of Vital Powers"; Gary lets us know that JMS didn't win the BAFTA for The Changeling, and Jeffrey says that the winner, In Bruges, is well worth checking out.

And finally, the Return of Jarsto! Jarsto smacks both Tim and Summer for not remembering "In The Beginning" in detail in regards to how the Babylon Project came about, from Show #138 (Summer claims sleep deprivation); Jarsto chimes in aga</itunes:summary>

Interview: Jan Schroeder and Jason Davis of the Babylon 5 Scripts Team join us to talk about the TV Movie Scripts book, and to tease us about a series of mystery books that will be coming our way starting in March.

Jason tells us how he came to the project, and his history of doing JMS interviews; both Jan and Jason talk about the finished movies vs the original scripts and extra materials that paint a different about of the movies, especially "Legend of the Rangers".

Don't forget: the TV Movies book is only available for a limited time, so make sure that you order your copy before April 30th!

We muse over the possibility of a feature length new B5 movie, since WB has thrown the thread out there in asking what dollar amount constitutes "feature" to JMS; and Tim and Summer throw out guesses about what the new series of books may contain, and we're shot down on every one, not that they'd acknowledge if any of them were correct.

It's a long interview, so grab a beverage, put your feet up, and enjoy!

Discussion: NY Comic Con announced that JMS definitely had to cancel his appearance, since there was no way that he'd be able to make both NYCC and the BAFTA Ceremony where Changeling has been nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

And Warner Bros is now considering making the steps necessary to find out what JMS's definition of "big" is in the "big budget only" declaration he made about the only way he'd do another feature length film project. While we aren't getting our hopes up too high yet, some of us can only wonder what took them so long.

We get bubbly for a bit about the amount of fresh B5 content out there, and that's still coming along.

Deep Geeking: Tim and Summer discuss "Between The Darkness and The Light", the episode which marks a significant turning point in the war to take back Earth from Clark's forces.

The morale hit taken by Sheridan's capture is turned around by them breaking him out and rescuing him, and by the White Star fleet's destruction of Earth's advanced, Shadow-tech cruisers.

Is this the first glimpse we see of Lyta's steps towards her dark, angry side? Is the technique of telepaths suggesting "pain" a standard self-defense or protective disabling technique since all telepaths are capable of doing that?

And Tim has a huge gripe about Ivanova's battle speech, wondering why the opposing destroyers just didn't start shooting while she was ranting. How many other people despise that part of the scene for being too speechy or too long?

Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.

Feedback: Doug lets us know that the way they were able to completely remove the Keeper from David Sheridan was explained at the end of the Centauri trilogy of novels; Gary calls in to offer his appreciation for the extra long clip show, and wanted to know if Jeffrey was silent during his scenes or if he had to learn the lines with the rest of the actors (yes, he had to learn the lines).

Sorry this is so late... Summer came down with a bad case of "too many projects"-itis, and completely forgot that she'd started to post this episode, but didn't finish posting it. Yeesh.

JMS' scheduled appearance at NY Comicon (Feb 6-8) may have to be canceled since the movie The Changeling has been nominated for several BAFTA Awards (the British equivalent of the Oscars).

Jarsto joins us this episode... proof positive that he was NOT captured by Vorlons for experimentation. He tells us about the upcoming new episodes of "Three-Edged Sword", the audio drama over at Voices of Babylon, and their planning for new B5-based audio dramas, and the call for scripts and story ideas from other people.

Tim relates an anecdote from work that directly relates to our most recent episodes of Babylon 5, especially the topic of tonight's discussion.

Deep Geeking: Tim, Summer and special guest Jarsto delve into "Intersections in Real Time", definitely one of the most difficult episodes to watch the first time around.

The psychological abuse we see Sheridan being subjected to is also felt by the viewer because of the structure of the episode... there is no cut away to a B story, no time jumps in scene, and the relentless manipulation in pursuit of a truth they want to use for their own purposes.

It's also another wonderful example of the use of a stage play composition, both in set design and writing/acting, to intensify the the emotional impact of the interactions and the reasons for them.

How much JMS' background in psychology played in crafting this episode would be a fun thing to find out, and Summer wonders if JMS ever read Psychological Warfare by Col. Paul M. A. Linebarger (aka Cordwainer Smith).

And Summer was mistaken about a few details: Linebarger didn't write the book for the Army... he was in the Army at the time, and it was published by Infantry Journal Press while he was with the Institute for Advanced International Studies, but the book was an examination of the topic from WWI and WWII. It's also long long out of print, and copies run $500 and higher these days, but she'd love to read it someday.

Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.

Chat: Tim's been geeking on the Apollo Moon Missions over at the Apollo Talks podcast, so check it out!

Yes, it's been awhile since we've had a new show... didja miss us? We hope this show makes up for that long break.

Jeffrey regales us with a Majel Barrett convention tale as we honor her memory (she passed away on December 18 2008 of leukemia).

Tim tells us about a new TV project that JMS is working on, and we all hope that a SAG strike doesn't happen to knock things awry.

Interview: It's the interview almost everyone has been waiting for. Ed Wasser joins us this week, and he tells us how he thinks that the attraction to Morden comes from the undeniable allure of the mystery and the appeal of the bad guy. We also talk about how he came to Babylon 5, and how his asking for a more dangerous part led to him getting the role of Morden, his fan club and convention visits, and more.

The depth and reach of Morden's plans definitely affects the entire series, even though he was only on screen for 13 episodes. It's a testament to the writing and the performances that major characters that only appear from time to time can have such a large impact on the overall series story arc.

But, did you also remember him being on Sliders?

Feedback: Jeffrey pushes the buttons and plays some voicemail for us! Gary thanks Brad for the musical Holiday Gifts that were posted to the site; Gary comments on JMS's remake of Forbidden Planet, and manages to bring in the Zima again.

We have no idea who the mystery caller is that is going to call us back, but she amused the hell outta Jeffrey. Really.

Mike G sent an email about Jeffery's listing on the Who's Dated Who? website. Why doesn't Jeffrey Willerth have any WDW fans?

Kate in Chicagoland gives us some suggestions on topics to cover on The Babylon Podcast after we've gone through all the official and unofficial materials, and James in Tallahassee tells us that he's made many Lego B5 ships, including EA ships, Narn, Centauri, Minbari and Brakiri ships. We wanna see pictures of them!

		<itunes:summary>Welcome to Show #139!

No Jeffrey again this week, and we are sad. We blame "The Amazing Race".

Tim addresses some of the fan reaction to the news that JMS would be writing the screenplay for the planned remake of "Forbidden Planet". It will not be retro, as rumored earlier, and hopefully such an honored icon for scifi fans will not be mistreated in his hands. Even so, a lot of JMS fans and "Forbidden Planet" fans are more than a little grumpy about the prospect of it being remade by anyone.

Deep Geeking: This week, Tim and Summer discuss "The Exercise of Vital Powers", and Tim continues to exercise his right to vital puns.

Summer's appreciation of this episode comes from the complete break from what had been the traditional storytelling style in the series, and diving into old school hard-boiled pulp detective thriller territory. From Garibaldi's opening monologue, through his working for the power player who's suspiciouly far beyond his usual clientele, to his having to resist the damsel in distress who almost always lures the private eye to his doom... this episode is all pulp, all the time.

And even though Summer's seen this episode quite a number of times, she still discovered something new in this most recent viewing combined with a tidbit from Volume 10 of the scriptbooks... a new meaning in Garibaldi's closing monologue.

Want more? Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.

Discussion: Tim reads an email from Stu about the Revell models due to be released in 2009: a Starfury and a B5 station. Whee! Summer wonders why there was never a model for B4, and Tim breaks bad with the puns again.

We also dream of a Lego B5 environment, complete with zocalo and aliens. If you're gonna dream, dream big, baby.

Edmund leaves us a voicemail with more news and reviews for Changeling.

No Jeffrey this week, he's working hard on "The Amazing Race", but not to worry... for some reason, the Vorlon puns still filter their way into the show.

Interview: This week, Tim and Summer talk with Jaclyn (pictured, L) and Jan from the Babylon 5 Scripts Project, and by a twist of fate, the date of this interview, October 29th, was the 3rd anniversary of the release of the first scriptbook!

Jaclyn and Jan give us as many details as they can about how this project came about, and the scope of putting something on this scale together, possible future volumes, and much much more!

Want more? Visit Deep Geeking, and if you want to contribute a geeking essay, send a note to Summer.

Call to Action: While we haven't set a travel date yet, it's time to start requesting donations to help fund Summer's road trip into Vorlon Space, to catalog the items in Jeffrey's storage locker, so we can help him consolidate his storage needs. Please donate, and make a notation that it's earmarked for the Excursion into Vorlon Space, and those who donate will get first crack at items, before they're made available to auction to the live feed listeners, and then to the general public.

Second Life Info: FarPoint Media's Second Life space is now the penthouse suite of Third Life Books. You can find the castle at http://slurl.com/secondlife/beraudes/203/151/49. Come see the castle roof pool, and more!
